JA's 2010 Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Vicky Stanley Pearland High School
"I am a very strong advocate for Career & Technical Education and the Tech Prep partnerships between Texas Community Colleges and High Schools. It's very important for students to be exposed to college level courses in high school sot hat they are well prepared to deal with the structure, work load, and rules they will be expected to follow. Building business and workplace skills is imperative because we are preparing students to become productive citizens whether or not they choose higher education. That's why Junior Achievement is so important. It bridges the gap between the classroom and the real world by allowing students to practice the situations and decisions they will face in the workplace."
JA's 2010 Volunteer of the Year: Mrs. Michell Azbell TDECU
"The skills and lessons taught by Junior Achievement are truly life skills. There isn't necessarily a test at the end of each unit that must be passed, but life provides the tests on an ongoing basis. One can't be a true success without the lessons that JA teaches -- money management, economics and the importance of giving back."
